Beverly Porter

Beverly (Fowler) Porter began her piano teaching career as a young teen-ager in Vancouver and by age 19 had earned both the ARCT and LTCL pedagogy diplomas.  Her piano studies with Glenn Nelson and Pearl Kerr Mossfield were complemented by summer courses at the Banff School and the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California.  Her theory teacher was Norma Cowan King.

For many years Beverly has been a resident of Ontario.  She studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music with Alberto Guerrero and later with Clifford Poole. She is a graduate of the School of Music of Queens’ University where she studied voice with Randall Marsh and composition with Clifford Crawley and David Keene.  She was also an adjunct instructor of piano during that time.

An active member of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association, Mrs. Porter is a past-president of the Kingston Branch.   Her piano students range from preschool to diploma levels and are often the inspiration for her compositions.  “Chromatic Rag” was first published in the Diamond Jubilee Collection of the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers Associations. She hopes her music will engage the imagination of students and inspire them to expand their musical sensitivity along with their technical skills.

Beverly continues to live and teach in Kingston. She and her husband raised 5 children and the family now includes 8 grandchildren.
